So if you do not have a budget, here are some tips to help you get a budget. First, know your take home pay amount because that amount is your framework for a budget. Then, understand why you are budgeting and set some goals. Your goal should be to spend less money than what you earn. One way to determine how much you are spending is to keep track of every dollar you spend for at least a month. You can use a pen and paper and write down every transaction. Then sit down and looked at what you spend and determine what you need to adjust and formulate a budget.
After you have looked at your financial picture, plan your budget around your income and expenses, but factor in any irregular bills that you may have such as car insurance, registration etc. If you do not factor in these irregular expenses, then you end up with unexpected bills that will derail your budget.
